Just a few reasons Fedhealth is Built Different:
Just a few reasons Fedhealth is Built Different:
REASON #8
Emergency contraceptives now also covered from Risk
For many years, Fedhealth has been covering certain oral and injectible female contraceptives from Risk, to help reduce your out-of-pocket expenses. We now also pay for emergency contraceptives on all options – giving members further support and peace of mind.
Built to have your back at all times.
REASON #18
The second largest hospital network in South Africa
Our GRID hospital network is the second largest in the country, prominently
featuring the facilities of two award-winning hospital groups, Mediclinic and Netcare. So, not only do members on our GRID options save 10% every month, they also enjoy more choices as well as greater access compared to other network plans.
Built to give you wider hospital cover.
REASON #40
Upgrade any time of year should life happen
Life happens – we get it. From an unexpected pregnancy to serious diseases, on Fedhealth you can upgrade to a higher option with more suitable benefits any time within 30 days of your diagnosis. This means you only have to pay for the cover you need right now, not future ‘what-ifs’.
Built to grow with you as your needs change.
REASON #23
Broader access to mental health medication
Members on our lower flexiFEDSavvy , flexiFED 1 and 2 options now also have access to medication for depression.
Built to protect EVERY aspect of your health.
REASON #33
flexiFED 1 now provides more maternity cover
One of our fastest growing and most affordable options, flexiFED 1, brings even more value to members with the addition of out-of-hospital maternity benefits. You can look forward to 2D scans, antenatal classes, amniocentesis and additional consultations – and that’s just the start.
Built to have your back at all times.
REASON #15
We look after furry family members too
Because we understand that your cats and dogs are family members too, all Fedhealth members get a free Pet Care benefit to help take care of their fur children. You have one virtual vet consult through the TAME Pet App per month (flexiFEDSavvy members get two), as well as R10 000 accident cover per year through PawPaw Pet Insurance.
Built to protect what’s important to you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get medical aid if I’m already pregnant?
Yes, you can take out medical aid (as an individual medical aid member) if you’re already pregnant, although any costs associated with your antenatal care and the birth of your baby will not be covered by your new medical aid.
What’s the difference between medical insurance and medical aid?
Medical insurance is designed to pay you out for daily expenses while you’re in hospital. You need to be in hospital for at least three days, and your daily amount won’t cover your entire medical bill.
Medical aid, on the other hand, is designed to cover all costs involved with being admitted to hospital, including the anaesthetist, any specialists you use, and take-home medication. Depending on the plan you choose, your cover for your hospital stay can be unlimited.
What do hospital plans cover?
Hospital plans mainly cover the treatment costs if you’re admitted to hospital such as ward costs, theatre fees, and accounts from other in-hospital providers such as anaesthetists or radiologists. Hospital plans also typically cover emergency medical expenses, whether you are admitted to hospital or not. To qualify as an emergency, the condition or event must be unexpected and need immediate treatment, for example treatment in the casualty ward of a hospital, trauma counselling or emergency medical services.
